Stairlift: what it is, what it costs and when it makes sense

When climbing stairs becomes a problem — due to age, surgery or reduced mobility — a stairlift is usually the fastest and least invasive solution. Here's what you need to know before getting a quote.

What a stairlift is

It's an electric chair mounted on a rail that follows the exact shape of your staircase, carrying the seated person up or down. It installs on top of the steps without touching the wall or the structure.

Straight or curved: the biggest factor in price

On a straight staircase, the rail is a standard section and installation takes a couple of days. On a curved staircase, the rail is custom-built to the exact turns — which is why it costs more and takes longer to arrive.

How much it costs in Mexico

As a market reference (not a NUGEE quote): a stairlift for a straight section usually runs between $50,000 and $80,000 MXN; for a curved staircase, between $85,000 and $150,000 MXN, depending on rail length and finishes. The real price is confirmed once your staircase is measured.

Battery-powered — keeps working even during a power outage.
Folding seat and footrest, so it doesn't get in the way of the rest of the house.
Obstacle sensors and seatbelt included as standard.
Can be removed without leaving permanent damage on the staircase.

Stairlift or elevator?

If the problem is just the staircase and the person lives on one floor, a UP stairlift solves it faster and cheaper. If you also need to move heavy items, a wheelchair, or connect several levels permanently, it's worth looking at PVE or Cibes. We'll help you decide at no cost — tell us about your case.
