Platform lift vs. residential elevator: differences and which to choose
In Mexico we use "plataforma elevadora" and "elevador" almost as synonyms, but technically they aren't. The difference matters because it changes which standards apply, the user experience, and in several cases, the price.
What a platform lift is
It's an accessibility device regulated by the European EN 81-41 standard, built to move people β often in wheelchairs β between levels. It can have an open platform or an enclosure, but its main function is accessibility, not general building traffic. Cibes Air, A4000, A5000 and A8000 are platform lifts.
What a residential cabin elevator is
It's a fully enclosed cabin, with its own doors (telescopic sliding, in Cibes's case), built for general use around the house β not just accessibility. It meets additional passenger-elevator standards, including parts of the EN 81-70 accessibility standard. The Cibes C1 Pure and the Series V (Elegance, Aurora, Aurora Plus, Galaxy) are cabin elevators.

Which one is right for you?
If the main goal is solving accessibility β for an older adult, someone with reduced mobility, or a wheelchair user β across a few levels, a platform lift works well with less construction. If you want the elevator to be part of the whole family's daily use, with the experience and finish of an enclosed cabin, the C1 Pure or the Series V are the way to go.
